So how can a Meteorite be so beautiful?
History tells us in Russia there are some cut Peridots that came out of a meteorite which came down in eastern Siberia in 1749.
Then in 1951, a farmer uncovered a meteorite in an unknown location near Esquel, while digging a hole for a water tank. The meteorite was purchased from the finders and taken to the United States in 1992 by meteorite expert Robert Haag.
The Esquel pallasite is known world-wide among collectors and the meteoritical scientific community. Esquel is one of the most beautiful meteorites ever found and is also one of the most desirable pallasites among meteorite collectors.
Polished slices of the stony-iron Esquel pallasite: at the Canadian Museum of Nature (top image), and encased yellow-green Olivine crystals in the iron-nickel matrix are clearly visible (below image).
Olivine is also the mineral of the Gemstone known as Peridot.
Peridot is the Gemstone Birthstone for August, it is also the Gemstone used to celebrate the 16th Wedding Anniversary.
It is found in shades of green. As a matter of fact Peridot is one of the few gemstones found in only one color.
Did you know that throughout time, Peridot has been confused with many other gemstones. Many “Emeralds” of royal treasures have turned out to be Peridots.
