Meaning of Moonstone

Moonstone

Moonstone is the Birthstone for June.

In India moonstones are considered to be holy and having magical powers and bringing good luck to the owner.

Among the Arabs the moonstone was a symbol of fertility.
The name moonstone was given by the Romans in ancient times, who believed that the stones appearance changed with the changing phases of the moon.

A stone for “new beginnings”, Moonstone is a stone of inner growth and strength. It soothes emotional instability and stress, and stabilizes the emotions, providing calmness. Moonstone enhances intuition, promotes inspiration, success and good fortune in love and business matters.

They are also referred to as dream stones, as it was believed that wearing one would lead you to the enchanting world of dreams at night.

When cut and polished moonstones show a special phenomenon known as Adularescence. This is a special light effect that seemed to change with the change in position of the stone. Sometimes moonstones can display a star of several rays or a cat’s eye.

Moonstone aids the digestive system, assimilates nutrients, eliminates toxins and fluid retention, and alleviates degenerative conditions of skin, hair, eyes, and fleshy organs such as the liver and pancreas. It stimulates the pineal gland and balances hormonal cycles, being excellent for PMS, conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and breast-feeding. Moonstone is also beneficial to men in opening the emotional self.

In 1970, the year after American astronauts took off from Florida and landed on the moon, the state of Florida adopted the moonstone as the official state gemstone.
