Chalcedony Jewelry
Chalcedony is derived from the name of an ancient Greek town in Asia Minor known as Chalkedon.
It is the term used by gemologists as a species name for all types of cryptocrystalline quartz, including Agate, Chrysoprase, Carnelian, Cat’s Eye, Golden Quartz, also known as Lemon Quartz, Beer or Whiskey Quartz, Mystic Quartz, Rose Quartz, Tiger’s Eye, Agate Geode, Bloodstone, Jasper, Onyx, Moss Agate, Adventurine.
Chalcedony has a waxy luster, and may be semitransparent or translucent. It can assume a wide range of colors, but those most commonly seen are aqua blue, white to gray, grayish-blue or a shade of brown ranging from pale to nearly black.
My collection of Chalcedony Jewelry comes from India, Israel and Nepal.
